On some PCs, there may be limited permissions for the folder where activation files **must** be written for the software to activate properly.

> ⚠️ For assistance with this on a business PC, or a PC where you are not an administrator, we strongly advise seeking assistance from your IT department, or from your system administrator.

To check this, look for the folder name of the product you are trying to activate (such as folder named *Fences6*, *Start11*, or *Groupy2*, etc), in File Explorer, here:

- **C:\ProgramData\Stardock**

> ℹ️ Please ensure it is **ProgramData**, and not *Program Files* or some other location. The **ProgramData **folder is hidden by default in Windows, but can be found by copying and pasting this path directly into File Explorer: **C:\ProgramData**

If there is a ***C:\ProgramData\Stardock\ ***folder, check the contents. Open the folder with the name of the product.

There should be two files: **license.sig** and **cache.dat**. If there is not, try to activate the software again. Are the files in that location now?

If the files are still not there, this indicates something is preventing them from being created properly.

Folder permissions can be reviewed and edited to resolve this.

Again, if you are on a business machine, we advise requesting help from IT staff or system administrator with the following:

1. Go here in File Explorer: **C:\ProgramData**
2. If there is a folder named **Stardock **in that location, delete it.
3. Create a new** \Stardock\ **folder here, then right click the folder → **Properties **→ **Security**.
4. Ensure it has, or “Edit” it to allow the permissions for both “Read” and “Write” access for your group or your user name.
  1. This could mean you Add the local "Users" group and give it Read/Write access, or you could Add your user name and give it Read/Write.
  2. It's possible you may also need to allow **“FullControl”** access in order for the app to create the product folders for each software title.
